Smash Burger with Peaches, Bacon and Jalapeno Cream Cheese

A fun way to jazz up your burger patty! This combination brings sweet, spicy and salty all together! Great over greens or on a hearty bun!

Smash this fad! Ok ok, we’ve likely all heard about the smash burger….but will be the first to say it? Is this a marketing term or cooking technique? Essentially, the premise here is to keep the burger ball in tact until you are ready to cook, and use pressure to flatten the patty, which creates a more compact heat. The added pressure cooks the inside faster, which will keep moisture from leaving, giving you a juicier burger. So, conceptually, I see the merit, but before you drop a lot of money of gadgets labeled ‘smash’, keep in mind the goal here. Many items in your kitchen will help accomplish this same result!

The beauty of thick skin! While the peach often gets its praise for being soft and juicy, what I strive to accomplish here is a crisp, blackened exterior by cooking in the oil with our burger patty. The rationale is, by blackening the outside, it adds texture for sure, but also keeps the inside soft and tender, bringing the best of both worlds! When added to the patty, it brings that added sweet flavor! I found this was even better when served as a salad option to replace any need for a dressing!

Equipment

  • Air Fryer could use same pan
  • Skillet I prefer cast iron for this one
  • Mixing bowl
  • Kitchen knife

Ingredients
  

Burger

  • 1 lb Hamburger
  • 1/2 tsp Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire
  • Salt and Pepper

Toppings

  • 1 small Jalapeno
  • 3 tbsp Cream Cheese
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1/2 large Red Onion
  • 1 large Peach
  • 4 strips Bacon
  • 2 large Buns (optional for serving)
  • 2 handfuls Mixed greens (optional for serving)

Instructions
 

  • In air fryer, or skillet, cook bacon.
  • While bacon is cooking, finely chop jalapeno and combine with softened cream cheese, salt and pepper. Use a fork or whisk to combine until smooth.
  • In skillet (bacon removed if using), heat oil and add sliced red onion, slices of peaches and a burger ball. Use a burger press (or back of a spatula, measuring cup, bottle, etc), to smash the burger into a thin patty.
  • Cook until onions and peaches are starting to blacken on the outside and burger is done to your liking.
  • Serve patty over a bun or bed of greens, topped with patty, cheese, bacon, onions and peaches. Enjoy!
