Tour of the Markets-North Canton Farmers Market, North Canton, OH

Right off the highway and passed the park, tucked up on the hill, you will find the civic center, open year-round for this Wednesday market. While parking is plentiful, it was clear that this was a popular destination, as a steady stream of traffic flowed in the whole time I was here. Great to see such a crowd!

After I parked, I found myself on the lawn and gazebo overlooking the tennis courts below and leading up to the civic center. From the outside, this looks to be your typical brick municipal building, similar to a library. Interior pictures below will show otherwise….

As the path winds around, I was greeted with the outside vendors, overflowing with fresh produce.

The produce was so fresh, most picked that morning!

The variety was amazing. I spoke to this gentleman for quite a while on the different types of greens he grew and cooking inspiration. Really eye opening when you not only have new varieties, but also different cultural ways of preparing produce.

While I’m holding out for my fall apple picking experience, it was nice to see such a selection of delicious apples!

At this point in the season, the bulb produce was really prevalent, and the colors and sizes were gorgeous!

Not to be outdone by its green friend, carrots were out in full force, and just begging for fall soup season!

While the season is moving to heartier produce, there was still an abundance of tender greens ready for lunch salads.

Turning to head inside, I was greeted by my first of many jewelry and clothing booths, basking in the beautiful outdoor space!

The entrance was full of plants and herbs, greeting me with fabulous colors and smells.

I was blown away by the pure size of this building! It looked like a small municipal building on the outside, but this room was huge! Lined on both sides, these booths were brimming with goods of all kinds!

My nose was in for a treat for the majority of this trip, starting with these fabulous soaps.

There were a few jewelers present, each with a unique style, stones, and metals. Beautiful craftsmanship!

I found my mind racing to holiday gift ideas with these one of a kind carved pens!

Honey always amazes me, with the volume of creations possible!

Not only was honey prevalent, but beeswax used to make these clever wraps. Again…holiday gift ideas swimming through my brain…

A wonderfully welcomed addition to a farmers market-the library had a huge presence, starting with children’s books! Available to check out, but also a few cozy locations around to curl up with a new find.

And not just for children! There was an adult literature booth available as well. Great to see the library so involved in the community!

Of all the markets I’ve been to, this may have had the largest selection of mushrooms I’ve seen. Here you catch a glimpse of my tutorial on some of the different varieties.

After a long day of shopping, reading, and meeting friends, you may need a sweet treat on your way out the door!

To make a full day of this event, there were lots of food offerings, including fresh lemonade and kettle corn.

Lining the street to the main entrance were food trucks. Another trend I’ve been seeing has been an emphasis on vegan and vegetarian options-this was a completely vegan taco truck. Well done!

My bag was overflowing here, but my recipes fell quite short. I brought home a few kinds of broccoli and amaranth, which I was excited to try, similar to a spinach. I’m very sad to report that the amaranth did not make it into this rotation of experiments but I had a blast with the broccoli, and treated myself to some roasted pecans and fresh focaccia bread for the drive back!

This market was a pleasant surprise! I don’t often look up too many details of the markets before I visit, but come in with an open mind. From the outside, I wondered if I had right address, but as I continued along the driveway, slowly food trucks came into view, then more and more vendor booths. Inside was a gigantic room that completely threw me for a loop! Knowing this year-round option is available, shopping locally for the holidays just became that much more accessible!

If you haven’t been following along, this is a part of the Tour of the Market series that I started in the summer of 2022, as a way to explore various farmers markets and try cooking with the local and seasonal offerings that they provide. I’d love to have you follow along with me as I continue this journey! Check out the past tours here.
